Weekly Wrasslin Wrankings August 26 – September 1

Wrankings. Getcher wrankings here. Hot off the fingers of Justin frantically trying to remember everything from this week.

  1. MAXIMIZATION OF TELEVISION TIME – What did this person do with their minutes? Were they must see? Was it something exciting to witness?
  2. FOLLOW THROUGH – Did this person handle the mic and deliver as promised or fall flat on their face. Even if it’s poor booking, it’s still a strike against them.
  3. STRAIGHT UP ENJOYMENT – Some times this will be enough to get them on through.
  4. IN RING PERFORMANCE – Yeah sure you were great on the mic but did your match stink up the joint?

*We reserve the right to add/subtract or alter the criteria at any point.

This list will include ANY wrestling that one of us has watched that week which does include when Justin watched WCW Nitro on the Network. Included for this weeks list are: First round of the Mae Young Classic, Monday Night Raw, SmackDown Live, and NXT

Weekly Wrasslin Wrankings

August 19 – August 25

1. John Cena and Roman Reigns Contract Signing

One of the biggest segments in recent Raw memory saw Cena and Reigns trading jabs on the mic. Things were heated, the lines felt blurred, and I am really excited to see these two men do battle at No Mercy and beyond.

2. Abbey Laith vs Jazzy Gabert

I wanted initially to just put Laith on the list as she impressed me more here but the more I thought about the more the match as a whole deserved this spot. I knew Abbey Laith was a good wrestler, Jazzy was the unknown and judging by her imposing nature, I thought for sure we would see Laith come up short. Nah. We got a tremendous back and forth match, showcasing both women’s amazing ability, fire, and grit. To me this was the best match of the first round.

3. Toni Storm

One of the names with the biggest hype to the MYC was Toni Storm, and nothing makes me happier than to report that the hype is real. I can already see the potential and am looking forward to seeing a lot more of this young lady.

4. Dakota Kai

Speaking of living up to hype. Plus she’s just adorable. So much upside. Can’t wait to see her and Rhea Ripley in the second round.

5. Kairi Sane vs Tessa Blanchard

One of the best matches of the first round of the Mae Young Classic for sure. Back and forth match with energy and emotion that spilled into after the match. Gotta love when something matters to both competitors.

6. Breezango

Ohhhhhh maaaan. Just one exchange from “Back to Basics” is all you need to know.

Dango: I know what that is. It’s a title.

Breeze: No. It’s a belt.

7. Bobby Roode

Another big week for Bobby Roode. All smiles on Tuesday and receiving cheers as he wrestled Mike Kanellis and bad guy scowl as he had a barn burning main event match with Roderick Strong at NXT on Wednesday.

8. Cole, O’Reilly, and Fish

I’m not sure what they’re going to call this stable but they are for sure leaving an impression. Feels a bit like The Outsiders. Disruptive. This week they laid out some dudes in the parking lot to start the show and Drew McIntyre again to close the show. Something big is on the horizon.

9. The Miz

Not a particularly great week for Miz but it WAS nice to see Raw start with the Intercontinental Championship being front and center. Miz continues his quest for respect, will it lead him to a match with Angle? Little things appreciated as well, like saving his boys in the battle royal.

10. Dolph Ziggler

While he still hasn’t gotten in the ring, he pushed off the “Everything You Want” thing for yet another week and it’s got me excited.

BUMMER: Injuries

Really bummed to see Xavier Woods hurt, as he has been wrestling more since coming over to SDLive, but it appears he won’t be out long. Still haven’t seen official word on Samoa Joe but his absence on Monday was a real bummer.

Last Weeks List

  1. Braun Strowman
  2. The Usos vs The New Day (3, technically)
  3. The Miz
  4. Dolph Ziggler
  5. Hideo Itami vs Aleister Black
  6. Neville vs Akira Tozawa
  7. Breezango (7)
  8. Bobby Roode
  9. Samoa Joe
  10. Lars Sullivan (2)
